DJ Duke is a visionary producer, DJ, and the driving force behind Pamoja Records, a powerhouse shaping the underground Singeli scene alongside its iconic MCs, including MCZO, Dogo Lizzi, Pirato MC, and Kashiwashi. Known for his fiercely DIY and aggressive production style, Duke pushes Singeli’s boundaries with breakneck BPMs and an innovative approach to sampling, weaving everything from Tanzanian advertising jingles to ambient studio sounds into his tracks. His raw, punk-inspired aesthetic has made him a standout figure in the genre.
In addition to his high-octane Singeli productions, DJ Duke has carved out a groundbreaking subgenre he calls “Hip Hop Singeli.” This slowed-down, groove-driven adaptation of the genre offers a compelling counterpoint to its faster counterpart and has quickly gained traction among fellow producers.
As both an artist and label boss, DJ Duke is not only preserving Singeli’s roots but also propelling it into new sonic territories, solidifying his reputation as a true innovator in East Africa’s music landscape.
